Marian distributed 2004-2006 Service Manuals to those who had none as
yet. She stressed her role as communicator between the district chair
service and the area coordinators such as public out reach, alateen etc.
She asked for district persons' questions to take to world service
meeting for discussion or answers.  District 9 Alateen Chair position is
still open. Persons who are now certified to be alateen sponsors must
attend a safety and guidelines workshop each year to continue
sponsorship.  She will try to have one locally if possible, and bring
back info about other times the course will be available-perhaps
Melbourne in March.  She stressed that Alateens belong to Alanon and
may attend those meetings. Sponsors should never drive alone with an
alateen nor be in a meeting alone with alateens. Marian gave each  a
list of topics to submit opinions on .  She will take these as group
input to world service area meeting.
Public Outreach :  Jill submitted  several opportunities for
outreach and requested that groups respond to these by March 18.  1. The
School Board Health Fair March 11 7AM-1PM.
Jill will have a display.  She would like help in that endeavor and at
other opportunies. Please have your group complete the "Public
Outreach-District 9 " form and return it to Jill by March 18.  2.
Present the Bridges of Amerca  idea to your group ---your group would
committ to sending a group of 3-4 persons to the drug treatment
facility in Auburndale one  month  during the year to present a newcomer
type meeting to family members of the residents of this facility ( hope
in Alanon, where and when info for meetings, personal experience etc.  )
Alanon has been invited to do this.  This facility is called "the Polk
Bridge", has 80 to 90 residents in treatment  for 6 months.  The family
visits are Sat.11:30-12:30-family visiting men;Sundays same for family
visiting women;quarterly family day (Apr. July,Oct. Dec) 12-4PM. They
would like to have an hour Alanon meeting.  Have group members read the
flyer, sign up on the back and mail the flyer to Jill by March 18 (a
group send 3-4 people).
3.  "Leave Hope Outreach" On March 4, each member leave a piece of
literature anywhere that is appropriate.  Pass a sheet of paper around
to group members after March 4 .  Ask members to write down where they
left literature.  Mail list to Jill by March 18.  4.  Use the "Planting
a Seed " pamphlet for a meeting topic.  5.  Jill  has a possibility  to
present Alanon info to investigators who visit dsyfunctional families
for  DCF (Dept of Children and Family ) ,also a possibility  to speak to
Lakeland Police Dept.  She would like others to be present and help. The
location for their classes is near Mulberry.  That would be a meeting
like our meetings for professionals except we would be taking a  meeting
to a group.
Answering Service: Bonnie asked for vounteers.  She has persons
signed up through March.  She will visit the group to tell the
procedure. Thirty calls have come in since Dec.  Keep an AA Where and
When handy as well . Don't leave a message when you return a call. Give
first name only.  If someone asks who you are  you might say ,"A new
friend."
Archives: Peggy displayed an attractive poster (which will become
an album  ) of activities of last year.  It was sugested that archives
keep only those events that invol
ved District 9 members.  Peggy also asked whether or not any group had
an idea for a fund raiser.
55th anniversary celebration:Bonnie and Phyllis chairing :May 20,
Lake Wales,First Presbyterian Church , Park Ave. , Brunch 11AM,.  We are
asked to donate books that were signigficant in the history of Alanon
such as "In the Beginning" and "Lois Remembers", old Forums, tapes, etc
. as well as any literature you would like to donate for a raffle.
Perhaps baskets or other items and donations, such as a copy of the play
that was presented at the Christmas party that was so delightful!  Haven
of  Hope and Just for Today  groups are working on this event.  They are
looking for a speaker.
Literature: Wilma ---Because of illness and impending surgery,
Wilma said she must resign.   A new  person is needed to handle
literature orders  for the district.  You would need room for 3
bookcases and a willingness to serve.  Our prayers are with Wilma .
New order catalogs came in the mail recently (to GR's)    .  North
Florida Workshop-March 25.  The new manual does list "The Lord's Prayer"
as an accepted part of an Alanon closing.  See the manual for opening
and closing and other great  stuff to guide the group. The meeting was
adjourned at 12:15.
                 Respectfully submitted,    Gloria H.
